Job Description

Job Summary:

  • We are seeking an experienced Respiratory Therapist II – Pediatrics to provide advanced respiratory care for neonatal, pediatric, and critically ill patients.
  • Under the direction of department leadership, the Respiratory Therapist will deliver high-quality respiratory care while working independently and serving as a resource for other clinical staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess, treat, and monitor patients with respiratory disorders.
  • Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, breathing treatments, and bedside pulmonary function testing.
  • Manage airways, including tracheostomy care, suctioning, intubation, and extubations.
  • Set up, monitor, troubleshoot, and manage mechanical ventilators using advanced ventilation modes.
  • Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpret clinical findings.
  • Assist with ventilator weaning and monitor patient response.
  • Document patient care accurately using EPIC.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and the multidisciplinary care team to develop and implement respiratory care plans.
  • Participate in on-call coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Maintain competency in respiratory care practices and serve as a resource for other staff.

Required Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required.
  • Dependent upon population served and regardless of if RRT or CRT, all teammates must have at least one of the following depending upon practice area:
  • ACLS.
  • NRP.
  • PALS.
  • CPFT.
    OR
  • Advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in Bronchoscopy Lab.
  • All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body.

Requirements Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapist experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Recent experience working with NICU and PICU patients is required.
  • Experience with mechanical ventilation and critical respiratory care.
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic medical records.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and clinical assessment skills.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with ECMO and neonatal/pediatric transport is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of respiratory therapy procedures, infection prevention, and patient safety practices.
