Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced clinical laboratory testing and produce accurate test results across all CLIA complexity levels.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to equipment, specimens, test results, and workflow.
  • Work independently while applying advanced laboratory knowledge and problem-solving skills.
  • Evaluate testing requests and determine appropriate diagnostic testing needs.
  • Perform quality control, proficiency testing, and monitor testing accuracy and precision.
  • Prepare reagents, standards, and control materials.
  • Monitor inventory and maintain laboratory supplies.
  • Serve as a technical resource for laboratory staff.
  • Participate in special projects, team initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Train new employees and assist with teaching learners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

One of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Science or Biological Science.
  • Associate Degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technology.

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Associate Degree pathway: MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical/Biological Science: ASCP Categorical Certification in specialty area.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science: MT/MLS (ASCP) or MT/MLS (AMT).

Experience:

  • Associate Degree + MLT certification: 2 years experience required.
  • Bachelor’s in Chemical/Biological Science + ASCP categorical certification: 2 years experience required.
  • Bachelor’s in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science + MT/MLS certification: No experience required.

Additional Skills:

  • Blood Bank/Transfusion Medicine experience required, including:
  • Type & Screen.
  • Antibody Identification.
  • Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT).
  • Eluate Testing.
  • Phenotyping.
  • Antigen Typing.
  • Blood product modifications:
  • Syringe aliquots.
  • Irradiation.
  • Protocol experience:
  • Massive Transfusion Protocol (MTP).
  • Emergency Release procedures.
  • Strong troubleshooting, quality control, and laboratory instrumentation skills.
