Job Summary:
- Performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing on patient specimens.
- Interprets data and ensures accurate and timely reporting of results.
- Supports training, quality control, and compliance within the laboratory.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform assigned laboratory testing accurately and efficiently.
- Interpret and verify test results; investigate discrepancies and notify leadership as needed.
- Maintain clean and organized workstation.
- Perform quality control procedures and document results.
- Perform instrument operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Document corrective actions and notify leadership of issues.
- Participate in training of students, new employees, and medical staff.
- Complete competency assessments and performance improvement plans as required.
- Communicate delays, issues, and workload concerns to leadership.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Medical Laboratory Science (formerly Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology).
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- One of the following is required:
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) – Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
- American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Performs waived, moderate complexity, and high complexity testing on patient specimens.
- Correlates and interprets data utilizing critical thinking skills and knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments.
- Problem resolution.
- Equipment maintenance.
- Reagent preparation.
- Test result data entry.
- Quality control procedures and documentation.
- Instrument operation and maintenance.
- Troubleshooting including contacting technical support.
- Ability to recognize abnormal or inconsistent results and investigate appropriately.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Hospital generalist experience.
- Experience with Client Chemistry.
- Experience with Sysmex Hematology.
- Manual Gram stain experience.
