Job Description
Job Summary:
- Under the limited supervision of the Neurodiagnostic (ND) Tech Educator or delegated team member, prepares patients for routine and advanced neurodiagnostic procedures including EEG, EMG, long-term and intraoperative monitoring, evoked potentials, nerve conduction velocities, autonomic testing, Neuro Interventional Radiology WADA, and PET studies.
- Performs diagnostic and investigative studies in the laboratory, at the bedside, and in critical care units for patients of all ages.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accurately measuring and applying electrodes according to the International 10-20 System.
- Ensuring electrode impedances meet laboratory standards.
- Gathering comprehensive patient history including seizure activity and medications.
- Explaining procedures to patients and families.
- Recognizing medical contraindications of activation procedures.
- Preparing equipment and exam rooms according to lab standards.
- Adjusting machine controls and utilizing alternative methods to obtain optimal recordings.
- Recognizing and eliminating artifact.
- Following EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) Observer I standards.
- Reviewing and clipping EMU and continuous EEG files.
- Observing and beginning training in EMG, EVP, Autonomics, IOM, WADA, and PET.
- Troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and software errors.
- Assisting Tech I staff.
- Entering documentation and charge capture accurately and timely.
- Assisting front desk with scheduling and patient check-in.
- Floating to other sites as required.
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent – Required.
- Graduate of an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalography & Evoked Potentials (ABRET) – Preferred.
Licensure & Certifications:
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider or AHA approved equivalent required within 90 days of hire – Required.
- Registered by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) in a minimum of one of the following – Preferred:
- Registered Electroencephalography Technologist (EEG).
- Registered Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing (EMG/NCV).
- Certified Autonomic Professional (CAP).
- Certified Long Term Monitoring Technologist (CLTM).
- Registered Evoked Potential Technologist.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proven ability to perform Electroencephalography (EEG).
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- 2+ years of proven experience as a Neurodiagnostic Technician.
- Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing.
- Autonomics.
- Long Term Monitoring.
- Evoked Potentials.
- Magnetoencephalography.
