Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To provide for the efficient processing of instruments and sterilization throughout Client.
  • Processes decontaminated medical devices as they are received, according to established priorities, medical device IFU’s and best practices.
  • Receives instruments from the decontamination area and processes appropriately.
  • Performs physical and environmental duties as designated on a routine daily basis, including but not limited to cleaning work space/instrument room/cabinets, emptying biohazards waste, monitoring sterilizers, and checking environmental monitors.
  • Completes sterilization processes.
  • Performs high level disinfection.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including other essential instrument room duties.

Education, Experience and Certifications / Licenses:    

  • Required – CRCST – Cert-Cert Reg Cent Ser TECH International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management.
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician issued by The Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution.
  • CST-SUR – Cert-Cert Surgical TECH National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting OR National Center for Competency Testing.
  • Educational program completion for surgical technologists which may include operating room/surgical training completed in the army, navy, air force, marine corps, or coast guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service- REQUIRED.
  • 2 years Experience as a surgical technologist and has experience in two or more surgical specialties- REQUIRED.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of a wide variety of instrumentation used in the operating room and throughout the Hospital.
  • Ability to operate all OR sterilization and processing equipment, to prioritize and organize, and to work independently with consistent supervision.

Proficiency with:

  • Steam, EO, and low-temp sterilization systems.
  • Washer/disinfector operations.
  • Ultrasonic cleaners.
  • Biological and chemical indicator testing.
