Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Radiologic Technologist I is responsible for obtaining diagnostic radiographic examination at a technical level not requiring constant supervision and performs all the essential generic job functions as listed below.

Essential Generic Job Functions:

  • Produces diagnostic radiographic examinations by positioning patients, providing immobilization devices, and selecting proper technical factors based on individual patient needs.
  • Selects and operates equipment as required for specific procedures.
  • Restricts radiation beam through cone and collimating devices to protect unaffected parts of the patient.
  • Performs portable x-ray examinations in patient rooms, operating rooms, and the emergency room.
  • Follows operational procedures to identify patient films with name and x-ray number, and marks film correctly as to the side of the patient.
  • Develops exposed x-ray film by available processing methods.
  • Completes patient requisitions with technologist initials, date, number, and size of film.
  • Maintains an orderly x-ray room as directed by the department head.
  • Prepares radiopaque contrast media and assists physicians in administering mixtures to patients.
  • Performs administrative duties including scheduling, patient instruction, film filing, record maintenance, patient reception, and other required tasks.
  • Assists all patients as needed with mobility and positioning on/off x-ray tables.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 5 lbs., push/pull a minimum of 10 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Identifies and adapts care to meet the needs of the patient population served, including age, culture, language, and impairments. Communicates appropriately with patients, parents, or caregivers based on developmental/educational levels.
  • Adheres to the standards outlined in the Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies.

Education Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Completion of clinical and A.R.R.T. requirements.

Licensure & Certifications:

  • New Jersey State License.
  • Must be eligible to meet National Registry requirements and pass the examination.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in X-ray department.
