Job Summary:
- The Medical Technologist I performs patient testing and laboratory procedures to support clinical operations.
- This role involves specimen processing, microbiology testing, quality control, equipment maintenance, and accurate reporting of results while ensuring compliance with laboratory standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and specialized microbiology laboratory testing.
- Conduct Gram stains and specimen plating for microbiology cultures.
- Prepare specimens, reagents, and laboratory solutions.
- Review and report accurate test results to healthcare providers.
- Troubleshoot equipment, specimen, and workflow issues.
- Perform quality control and routine equipment maintenance.
- Assist with training new staff and students, as needed.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and special projects.
Requirements:
- Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) accepted.
- Experience with Gram staining and microbiology specimen plating is required.
- No prior experience required if the required microbiology skills are present.
- Blood banking or core laboratory experience is not required.
Preferrences:
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced microbiology laboratory.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
