Radiologic Technologist – Computed Tomography

Job Description

Job Summary:

• Under general supervision, the CT Technologist performs computerized tomography (CT) procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic images for physician interpretation.
• The technologist may also perform general diagnostic radiology examinations and is responsible for providing safe, efficient patient care while adhering to established imaging protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Explain imaging procedures and prepare patients for CT examinations.
• Review physician orders and patient medical history to ensure appropriate imaging studies are performed.
• Prepare and maintain procedure rooms, equipment, and supplies.
• Operate CT equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
• Administer IV contrast media, including the use of power injectors, and monitor patients for adverse reactions.
• Assist Radiologists with complex diagnostic procedures, including sterile biopsies, as needed.
• Follow radiation safety standards and ALARA principles to minimize patient exposure.
• Ensure all images are accurately transmitted to PACS and resolve any imaging exceptions.
• Complete study documentation in the Radiology Information System (RIS), including study start, completion, and indexing.
• Verify imaging protocols with the Radiologist prior to performing studies.
• Maintain accurate clinical and billing documentation in the electronic medical record.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service, teamwork, professionalism, and effective communication in accordance with organizational standards.

Required Education:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
• Must maintain required hours of continued medical education.

Required Certification & Licensure:

• BLS.
• Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and the advanced registry in Computed Tomography (CT) or registry-eligible.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of CT Technologist experience.

Physical Requirements:

• May work in a hospital setting or a mobile/ambulatory imaging unit.
• Ability to lift and/or move equipment or patients weighing more than 10 lbs.
• Potential exposure to radiation, high-voltage equipment, and infectious patients while following appropriate safety precautions.
