Job Summary:
- The Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) acts as a nutrition consultant and key member of the healthcare team, providing comprehensive nutritional care to patients and families.
- Responsibilities include nutritional assessment, diagnosis, care planning, patient counseling, education, intervention implementation, and monitoring outcomes.
- The role also supports educational programs and collaborates closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess patients’ nutritional needs through evaluation of medical history, anthropometric data, lab results, and nutrition-focused physical findings.
- Develop and implement individualized nutrition care plans and interventions.
- Provide nutrition counseling and education to patients, families, and healthcare staff.
- Monitor patient progress and evaluate outcomes related to nutrition therapy.
- Manage enteral and parenteral nutrition support as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient nutrition care.
- Maintain accurate documentation in patient medical records.
- Conduct community education programs, in-service training, and nutrition seminars.
- Participate in special projects, committees, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Mentor and supervise dietetic interns/students.
- Maintain current professional knowledge, certifications, and continuing education requirements.
- Support patient foodservice and culinary wellness initiatives.
Required Education & Experience:
- Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or related field with completion of an ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and supervised practice program (dietetic internship), if RD credential obtained prior to January 1, 2024.
- Master’s Degree required for candidates obtaining RD credential on or after January 1, 2024.
Minimum 1 year of recent full-time experience (within the last 5 years) as an RD in:
- Acute Care.
- Nursing Home
- Inpatient Rehab
- LTACH setting
- Experience with enteral and parenteral nutrition.
- Trained in completion of NFPE (Nutrition Focused Physical Exam).
Preferred:
- ICU experience.
- Advanced Practice Certification.
Required Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare teams, patients, and families.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and nutrition therapy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer systems.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
Work Environment:
- Normal office/clinical environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or extreme temperatures.
