Job Summary:
- Under limited supervision, performs routine histology techniques on surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue according to standardized procedures.
- Responsible for operating and maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment required for tissue analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Cut surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue using a rotary microtome.
- Embed tissue samples for processing Stain, coverslip, and label tissue slides.
- Perform special stains under supervision following standardized procedures.
- Maintain laboratory instruments, equipment, and solutions.
- Monitor and document QC, QA, and CAP records.
- Maintain inventory of reagents and laboratory supplies.
- Follow standard operating procedures and support quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist with onboarding and training as needed.
Required Education:
- Completion of an Associate’s Degree with coursework in Anatomy, Biology, and/or Chemistry, OR -Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree program in medical technology, medical laboratory sciences, clinical laboratory sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biology, OR -A High School Diploma or G.E.D. with two years of relevant laboratory experience in a work, academic, or volunteer capacity.
- Coursework completed outside of the US must be verified as by a NACES approved credential evaluation service.
Preferred Certification & Licensure:
- HT(ASCP) certification preferred.
Required Skills and Experience:
- 4–5 years of relevant experience required.
- Strong near vision and depth perception.
- Ability to focus on detailed laboratory work.
- Color vision accuracy required.
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to laboratory standards.
