Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determines suitability of specimens and orders by verifying patient demographic information, receipt documentation, and recognizing and troubleshooting erroneous, inconsistent and special orders.
- Organizes and prioritizes the workload so that services are provided as needed and requested by the medical staff avoiding repetition of work and incident reports as documented in records and observed by the supervisor.
- Performs routine and special procedures accurately according to policy and procedure manuals; evaluates results for correctness; recognizes abnormal test results and performs appropriate problem solving procedures in a timely manner as documented in section records.
- Provides age appropriate care by following established technical protocols based on age of patient, using appropriate instrumentation, and reporting and interpreting results based on normal ranges.
- Responds to emergency situations and STATs quickly and provides the appropriate services needed without delay as documented by turn-around-times and lack of incident reports.
- Assists other employees in troubleshooting specimen problems and errors and with the performance of workload in order to meet established turnaround times.
- Communicates any quality control problems, exceptional patients, to the appropriate supervisor and/or professional staff as they occur and maintains documentation of all clinical information by correctly entering data into the established record keeping system evidenced by few omissions or corrections and monitored by supervisor.
- Performs requested tests on patients to provide information to physicians to enable them to clinically evaluate patients.
- Analyzes results of test and procedures to determine significant findings.
- Ensures proper collection and handling of test samples.
- Performs quality control checks on all tests and equipment to assure accurate test results.
- Enters patient demographic information and test results into clinic information system.
- Maintains inventory of all necessary supplies to assure testing can be performed upon request.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Medical Technologist (ASCP).
- Hematology experience preferred.
Certifications:
- MT-STATE – Medical Tech. – Any State.
- MT-AAB – Medical Technologist- AAB American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
- MT-AMT – Medical Technologist – AMT American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- CLSP – Clinical Laboratory Specialist NCA.
- IMLS – Int’l Med Lab Scientist ASCP.
- BB-ASCP – Cert-Tech Blood Bank ASCP.
- C-ASCP – Cert-Technologist in Chemistry ASCP.
- H-ASCP – Cert-Technologist Hematology ASCP.
- MLS-ASCP – Cert-Medical Lab Scientist ASCP.
- MT-ASCP – Cert-Medical Technician ASCP.
- M-ASCP – Cert-Technologist Microbiology ASCP.
- MB-ASCP – Cert-Tech Molecular Biology ASCP.
- MP-ASCP – Cert-Tech Molecular Pathology ASCP.
