Job Summary:
- The Ultrasound Technologist performs or assists in ultrasound examinations, renders technical assistance to the Radiologist, and maintains and cares for all ultrasound equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares and examines all patients, verifying their identity for ultrasound examinations according to established departmental procedures and techniques.
- Obtains health status and medical history; ensures patient cooperation and ability to tolerate the examination.
- Confirms that the ultrasound examination correlates with patient clinical history and presentation; informs physician of any contraindications.
- Operates and adjusts ultrasound equipment; cleans and makes minor adjustments, taking safety precautions to protect patients and personnel. Reports malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Communicates with patients, representatives, and staff. Explains the exam and instructions, answering questions unrelated to specific diagnosis or treatment.
- Develops or modifies procedure plans based on health status and medical history, using age- and gender-appropriate considerations.
- Performs exams under general or direct physician supervision, adjusting scanning technique to optimize image quality and spectral waveform characteristics.
- Analyzes sonographic findings to ensure comprehensive exams sufficient for physician-directed patient management and diagnosis. Performs measurements and calculations according to laboratory and ACR protocols, minimizing patient exposure to acoustic energy.
- Notifies appropriate healthcare provider when immediate medical attention is required. Evaluates patient’s physical and mental status before discharge from the ultrasound department.
- Records diagnostic images and data for physician use and archival purposes. Provides oral summary of preliminary findings to the radiologist.
- Ensures adequate supplies are available.
- Helps maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Assists in the orientation and mentorship of new Ultrasound personnel.
- May answer telephones, schedule examinations, and initiate patient transportation.
- Performs other duties as required.
Education:
- High School graduate.
- Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
Certifications & Licenses:
- ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography)
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist.
- Registered by ARDMS.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook).
- Knowledge of office and administrative practices.
- Skill in use of personal computers and software.
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and discretion.
Languages: English (Speak, Read, Write)
