Job Description
Job Summary:
- The Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in the preparation, compounding, repackaging, filling, and delivery of medications for patients ranging from newborns to adults.
- The role supports safe and accurate medication dispensing, including controlled substance management, in compliance with hospital and departmental standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparation, compounding, repackaging, and dispensing of medications.
- Support procurement, storage, record-keeping, and distribution of controlled substances.
- Accurately enter patient diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area into the system.
- Follow aseptic technique and infection control standards for sterile product preparation.
- Complete annual aseptic technique recertification with a minimum score of 90%.
- Ensure medication accuracy as verified by the pharmacist.
- Perform batch, medication, and prescription order entry.
- Maintain adequate inventory of medications and supplies.
- Apply dilution and expiration dating labels per department standards after pharmacist verification.
Certifications / Licenses:
- Required- RPHT-TX – Reg Pharmacy Technician – TX State Board of Pharmacy Or PHAR INT – Pharmacy Intern State Board of Pharmacy.
- Preferred- CPHT – Cert-Pharm.
- TECH Certification Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
- IV Certification (required).
Experience:
- Recent clean room experience (required).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of hospital and departmental pharmaceutical handling standards.
- Strong math, reading, and communication skills.
- Ability to operate equipment used in sterile product preparation.
