Job Description

Job Summary:

  • A Respiratory Care Practitioner performs designated respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostic procedures in accordance with departmental and hospital policies for the treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostic procedures.
  • Administer therapeutic treatments and diagnostic testing using medical gases, respiratory equipment, environmental control systems, humidification, and aerosols.
  • Administer medications to the cardiopulmonary system.
  • Provide ventilatory support, including maintenance and management of life support systems.
  • Perform bronClientulmonary clearance and breathing exercises.
  • Provide patient education and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Maintain natural and artificial airways.
  • Deliver respiratory care in critical care and non-critical care areas for patients of all ages.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of client.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education: 

  • Associate Degree from a CoARC accredited Respiratory Care program.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree for Respiratory Care.

Required Certifications & Licensure: 

  • Current State of Wisconsin License as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Possess and maintain an active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Maintain an active RRT credential.
  • New Hires that are new graduates must obtain the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential within one year from date of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required
  • American Academy of Pediatric (AAP) Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required within 6 months of hire (client).

Preferred Certifications & Licensure: 

  • American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and Wisconsin Society for Respiratory Care (WSRC) membership.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of worked or educational clinical experience in both general and critical care.
  • 2+ years of hospital respiratory care experience preferred.
