Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepares patients for a range of neurodiagnostic procedures including EEG, EMG, long-term and intraoperative monitoring, evoked potentials, nerve conduction studies, autonomic testing, WADA, and PET scans.
- Performs testing in lab, at bedside, in ICU settings, and across all age groups.
- Applies and adjusts electrodes per 10–20 system; ensures impedance standards are met.
- Gathers detailed patient history including seizure types, symptoms, and medication.
- Recognizes contraindications to activation procedures and communicates effectively with patients and families.
- Operates neurodiagnostic equipment, adjusts controls, eliminates artifacts, and uses alternative methods to ensure quality results.
- Supports front desk with patient scheduling and documentation; assists Tech I as needed.
- Assists in EMU operations, training for EMG/EVP/IOM/WADA/PET, and reviews continuous EEG data.
- Follows lab standards under limited supervision and maintains documentation and charge capture accuracy.
Education:
- High school graduate or equivalent – Required.
- Graduate of an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potentials (ABRET) – Preferred.
Licensure & Certifications:
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or equivalent – Required within 90 days of hire.
Preferred (any of the following certifications by ABRET):
- Registered Electroencephalography Technologist (EEG).
- Registered Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing (EMG/NCV).
- Certified Autonomic Professional (CAP).
- Certified Long Term Monitoring Technologist (CLTM).
- Registered Evoked Potential Technologist.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Proven ability to perform Electroencephalography (EEG).
- Minimum of 2 years of EEG/LTM EMU experience – Required.
- Telemetry – Required for EMU.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- 2+ years of proven experience as a Neurodiagnostic Technician.
- Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing.
- Autonomics.
- Long Term Monitoring.
- Evoked Potentials.
- Magnetoencephalography.
