Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares patients for a range of neurodiagnostic procedures including EEG, EMG, long-term and intraoperative monitoring, evoked potentials, nerve conduction studies, autonomic testing, WADA, and PET scans.
  • Performs testing in lab, at bedside, in ICU settings, and across all age groups.
  • Applies and adjusts electrodes per 10–20 system; ensures impedance standards are met.
  • Gathers detailed patient history including seizure types, symptoms, and medication.
  • Recognizes contraindications to activation procedures and communicates effectively with patients and families.
  • Operates neurodiagnostic equipment, adjusts controls, eliminates artifacts, and uses alternative methods to ensure quality results.
  • Supports front desk with patient scheduling and documentation; assists Tech I as needed.
  • Assists in EMU operations, training for EMG/EVP/IOM/WADA/PET, and reviews continuous EEG data.
  • Follows lab standards under limited supervision and maintains documentation and charge capture accuracy.

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent – Required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potentials (ABRET) – Preferred.

Licensure & Certifications:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or equivalent – Required within 90 days of hire.

Preferred (any of the following certifications by ABRET):

  • Registered Electroencephalography Technologist (EEG).
  • Registered Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing (EMG/NCV).
  • Certified Autonomic Professional (CAP).
  • Certified Long Term Monitoring Technologist (CLTM).
  • Registered Evoked Potential Technologist.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven ability to perform Electroencephalography (EEG).
  • Minimum of 2 years of EEG/LTM EMU experience – Required.
  • Telemetry – Required for EMU.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 2+ years of proven experience as a Neurodiagnostic Technician.
  • Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing.

  • Magnetoencephalography.
