Job Summary:
- The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing Transthoracic echocardiograms, setting up and assisting with Transesophageal Echocardiograms and, under the direction of a trained echocardiographer, setting up and performing exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms to the standards set forth by the American Society of Echocardiography and client.
- This individual demonstrates increasing competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience:
- One to three years’ experience as a cardiac sonographer is required.
- Demonstrates proficiency by performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including but not limited to 2-dimensional, 3- dimensional, Doppler, and Transesophageal echocardiograms as requested by physician and in accordance with standard practices.
- Provides echocardiography service at all necessary locations, working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent call coverage as scheduled.
- Operates equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and obtains optimal images utilizing ancillary devices such as selected transducers, digital networking systems and off line analysis systems.
- Recognizes basis cardiac pathology.
- Analyzes patient’s medical record to obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures.
- Prepares preliminary reports for review and interpretation by Cardiologist including comparison of previous studies.
- Operate equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and to obtain optimal diagnostic recording; utilize ancillary devices such as selected transducers, digital networking system, off-line analysis systems.
- Maintain equipment in working order, making minor adjustments and repairs. Perform routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and report any equipment malfunction to echo lab manager.
- Sets up for and assists with Transesophageal Echocardiograms. Cleans and sterilizes TEE probe , performs TEE probe leakage testing according to dept. Policy and Procedure.
- Maintains clean and orderly patient care environment.
- Maintain equipment in working order, making minor adjustments and repairs.
- Perform routine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and reports any equipment malfunction to echo lab leader.
- Participate in quality improvement activities; evaluate procedure results for technical quality and accuracy; maintain appropriate logs, files, and records.
- Review department performance in relation to established goals, implementing changes to effects outcomes.
- Prepares and instructs patients pre- and post-procedure.
- Utilizes ultrasound contrast according to ASE guidelines and indications and dept policy including understanding and explanation of potential side effects.
Required Education:
- Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree.
- Successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP approved School of Ultrasound Technology.
- OR -Cardiovascular Technology.
- OR -Equivalent education.
Preferred Education:
- Previous healthcare-related training such as CNA, EMT, PCA, or other is preferred.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required.
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- OR -Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac ultrasound.
- AND -Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from CCI within 12 months of start.
- OR -Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from CCI within 12 months of start.
Preferred Certifications & Licensure:Â
- Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree and successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP approved School of Ultrasound Technology or Cardiovascular Technology or equivalent education.
- Work requires sufficient education/training to acquire American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac ultrasound Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).
- Previous health care related such as CNA EMT PCA or other is preferred.

- EMT
- RDCS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
Languages:
- English( Speak, Read, Write).
