Job Description
Education:
- Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree – Required.
- Completion of a 12-month CAAHEP-approved School of Ultrasound Technology, Cardiovascular. Technology, or equivalent education – Required.
Licensure & Certifications:
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required.
One of the following:
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac ultrasound – Required.
One of the following within 12 months of start:
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from CCI.
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from CCI – Required.
Required Skills & Experience:
- One to three years’ experience as a cardiac sonographer – Required.
- Proficiency in performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, and Transesophageal echocardiograms.
- Experience operating ultrasound equipment and ancillary devices (transducers, digital networking systems, offline analysis systems).
- Ability to recognize basic cardiac pathology and prepare preliminary reports for physician review.
- Assists with Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE); cleans and sterilizes TEE probes and performs leakage testing.
- Performs equipment cleaning, minor adjustments, preventive maintenance, and reports malfunctions.
- Participates in quality improvement, maintains logs/files/records, and evaluates procedural results.
- Prepares and instructs patients pre- and post-procedure.
- Utilizes ultrasound contrast per ASE guidelines and department policy.
