Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The CVOR Surgical Technologist assists the surgical team during cardiovascular and thoracic procedures by preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile field, managing surgical instruments, and supporting the surgeon throughout the procedure.
  • This role ensures patient safety and efficient surgical workflow while adhering to AORN, OSHA, and infection prevention standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the operating room, instruments, supplies, and equipment for cardiovascular surgical procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile surgical field throughout each case.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments and supplies during procedures.
  • Assist with patient positioning, draping, and preparation of the operative site.
  • Perform and document sponge, sharp, and instrument counts according to policy.
  • Handle and label surgical specimens following established protocols.
  • Ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Clean, decontaminate, and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization after procedures.
  • Follow AORN guidelines, OSHA standards, and infection prevention protocols.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and the perioperative team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVOR Surgical Technologist experience.
  • Experience with Open Heart, Vascular, Endovascular, and Thoracic procedures.
  • BLS (AHA) Certification – Required.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Required (Grandfathered candidates accepted).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training preferred.
