Job Description
Job Summary:
- The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality routine and specialized ultrasound procedures as ordered by a licensed independent practitioner, with final interpretation by a radiologist.
- This role requires integrating scientific knowledge, technical skills, and compassionate patient interaction to deliver diagnostic information while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams with attention to accuracy, patient safety, and quality of results.
- Prepare and maintain ultrasound rooms daily, ensuring adequate stock and supplies.
- Confirm patient identity using approved identifiers and ensure proper patient preparation.
- Verify pregnancy status and informed consent when applicable.
- Assess contraindications such as patient history, lab results, or medication risks.
- Administer appropriate contrast agents based on patient’s age, weight, and medical condition (when applicable).
- Anticipate and respond to patient needs throughout the encounter.
- Operate ultrasound and related imaging equipment; troubleshoot technical issues as needed.
- Document findings and maintain accurate records in RIS and PACS systems.
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of ultrasound physics, anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Experience with patients across all age groups (infant to adult).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Demonstrated competency in performing independent ultrasound scans per established protocols.
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and deliver patient-centered care.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; basic office equipment knowledge (fax, etc.).
- Bilingual skills preferred.
