Job Description
Job Summary:
- Completes the nutrition screening of patients within 72 hours of admission.
- Assesses nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans of patients to develop and implement dietary-care plans and provide nutritional counseling.
- Completes a dietary consult within 48 hours of the order notification.
- Assists in the development of Hospital regular and therapeutic menu plans and nutritional supplements based on indicated physiological and psychological needs of patients.
- Consults with Director of Dietary for performance level of Dietary staff that will provide nutritionally adequate, quality food.
- Advises patients and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans, diet modifications and food selection and preparation.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation.
- Counsels individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life, and the relationship between good eating habits and preventing or managing specific diseases.
- Consults with physicians, health care and dietary staff to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patient.
- Reviews and approves facility diet manual annually in conjunction with medical staff.
- Participates in treatment team as appropriate.
- Monitors food service operations to ensure conformance to nutritional, safety, sanitation and quality standards as needed.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops and implements program policies and procedures that guide the provision of services.
- Complies with organizational policies, procedures, performance improvement initiatives and maintains regulatory and industry standards.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Accepts responsibility for professional growth and development of self and attends all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality of facility employees and patients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience: 1+ years, as well as Experience with Eating Disorders and Substance Use Disorder strongly preferred in facilities working with those patient populations
Required Certifications: Registered Dietician, Save Serve Cert , Bachelor’s in Dietetics, Nutrition or similar
Additional Information:
- The Registered Dietitian is the nutrition expert providing all nutritional care to inpatient and outpatient populations to promote health and manage disease.
- Responsibilities include screening, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and consults in accordance with the guidance set forth in the Nutrition Service policies and procedures and Hospital regulations governing the practice of dietetics.
