CT Technologist

Job Description

Job Summary:

• The CT Technologist performs computerized tomography (CT) examinations under established protocols and the supervision of certified Radiologists.
• The technologist is responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images, ensuring patient safety and comfort, assisting Radiologists with procedures, and maintaining compliance with departmental and regulatory standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform CT examinations according to physician orders, established protocols, and Radiologist direction.
• Ensure patient safety and provide age-appropriate care throughout imaging procedures.
• Verify orders, diagnoses, and relevant clinical history before performing examinations.
• Prepare and educate patients about procedures and provide appropriate discharge instructions.
• Operate CT imaging equipment efficiently while minimizing repeat examinations.
• Maintain radiation safety and follow ALARA principles and applicable regulatory standards.
• Assist Radiologists with procedures as needed.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, Radiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Maintain accurate documentation and imaging records.
• Assist with the education and supervision of student Radiologic Technologists.
• Follow hospital, departmental, OSHA, DHEC, FDA, TJC, and other applicable safety and compliance requirements.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and medical information.
• Work collaboratively with the Imaging team and assist other departments when needed.
• Demonstrate flexibility, accountability, initiative, and strong customer-service skills.
• Participate in departmental projects, mandatory training, and performance initiatives.
• May be required to work weekends, holidays, or take call based on departmental needs.

Education:  

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an accredited school  of Allied Health Professionals preferred.
• Successful completion of an accredited Computed Tomography Program preferred.

Experience:

• One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.

Licensure/Certification:  

• Registered in Radiologic Technology by  the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); or current RSFH teammate with a high school diploma or GED and a permanent certification in Radiography from  SCRQSA.
• ARRT registered in CT preferred.
• Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.
• Certified Primary Source Verification (if applicable): ARRT

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform CT examinations and produce diagnostic-quality images.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Knowledge of radiation safety and applicable healthcare regulations.
• Ability to operate standard office and imaging equipment.
• Ability to safely lift, move, push, or pull patients and equipment as required.
• Current professional licensure and required credentials must be maintained.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, and use of hand/finger dexterity.
• Frequent patient lifting and repositioning.
• Ability to intermittently lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and healthcare-related hazards.
• Frequent exposure to radiation and intermittent exposure to chemicals.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions, meet deadlines, and accommodate irregular hours when required.
