Job Description
Primary Function/General Purpose of Position:
- The Physical Therapist is responsible for providing prescribed treatments of physical therapy which involve a complex and sophisticated level of modalities designed to restore the patient to his/her maximum rehabilitative potential.
- Evaluates, plans, and provides care to patients with deficits in self-care, mobility, safety, range of motion, or strength.
- Supervises and directs the care provided by the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA).
- May supervise the care provided by aides to increase the patient’s functional abilities and rehabilitative potential.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operates a vehicle for the organization; possession of a valid, current driver’s license is required.
- Provides direct hands-on patient care following the patient’s plan of care and current standards of practice for Physical Therapy.
- Documents all care provided, coordination of services, orders, goals, etc., in the patient’s electronic medical record accurately and timely.
- Supervises care provided by the PTA and Home Health Aides to ensure treatment goals are being met.
- Coordinates with other disciplines, agencies/companies, families, etc., to ensure patient care needs are met.
- Performs other job-related duties as required by supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodation.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic tasks and activities for improving functional abilities and rehabilitative activities.
- Knowledge of orthotic, prosthetic, and adaptive/assistive devices.
- Good organizational and time management techniques.
- Demonstrates competency and skills appropriate to specialty area (e.g., Pediatrics).
- Competency and verification of skills may be required when applying for specialty practice.
Specialty Areas:
- Competency in specialty practice areas is required for certain patient populations and verified as needed.
