Job Summary:
- Performs diagnostic cardiac and/or vascular ultrasound procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing cardiac conditions.
- Responsible for producing high-quality imaging and accurate measurements of cardiac structures.
- Plays a critical role in patient care by providing immediate preliminary reports of critical findings to physicians and nursing staff to guide life-saving interventions.
- Assists physicians with complex procedures in clinical and surgical settings including the OR, Hybrid Lab, Cath Lab, and CAD.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform advanced cardiac and/or peripheral vascular ultrasound procedures, including adult/pediatric echocardiograms, TEE, stress echo, and vascular studies (arterials, renal, transcranial Doppler).
- Operate ultrasound equipment and ancillary devices to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
- Assist with complex cardiac procedures such as TAVR, SAVR, Tandem Heart, Lariat procedures, and pseudoaneurysm compression.
- Review relevant patient data and prior reports before performing exams.
- Exercise judgment in notifying physicians of abnormal findings; communicate results effectively.
- Ensure accurate and complete documentation of procedures, reports, and patient information.
- Support departmental efficiency by managing supplies, scheduling, and maintaining clean and safe work environments.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance and national accreditation processes.
- Maintain registry credentials and required continuing education.
- Comply with hospital policies, infection control, and patient confidentiality standards.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team, including surgeons, physicians, and nursing staff.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical or Cardiac Ultrasound Certification Program.
Licensure & Certifications:
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) – ARDMS.
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) – CCI.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 6 months of relevant ultrasound experience.
- Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking.
- Strong communication skills, especially in clinical and surgical environments.
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotation outside of normal business hours.
