General Description:

Under general supervision, performs professional Occupational Therapy activities consisting of planning, evaluating, establishing and implementing individual and group treatment activities under the direction of a physician.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Interpret a physician’s referral and select an appropriate standardized evaluation procedure.
  • Evaluate patient in the following areas: independent living skills, occupational performance, prevocational work adjustment, educational skills, play-leisure abilities, social skills and various psychosocial skills.
  • Interpret the data and develop a treatment plan involving short and long term goals, frequency and duration of treatment.
  • Assist patient in carrying out these procedures through the design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices, joint protection and body mechanics.
  • Inform patient and family goals and progress.
  • Assist with discharge planning by ordering equipment and instructing patient on home therapy plan.
  • May supervise students.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of professional occupational therapy and the materials and supplies utilized in the program.
  • Skill in organizing and instructing occupational therapy activities.
  • Ability to interpret prescriptions related to therapy needed.
  • Good interpersonal skills in establishing effective working relations with staff.
  • Ability to communicate instructions and technical information to patients.
  • Some computer skills.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Current license from the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
