Job Description
Job Summary:
- The Surgical Technologist plays a key role in supporting surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring instruments are ready and functional, and assisting surgeons during procedures.
- This position requires strong technical knowledge, a high level of attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare OR tables and ensure all instruments/supplies are ready before surgery.
- Scrub in and assist surgeons directly during surgical procedures.
- Handle instruments, suction, retraction, suturing, irrigation, and dressing under surgeon/RN supervision.
- Maintain a sterile field and follow aseptic technique.
- Assist with pre- and post-operative patient care (site cleansing, dressing, transferring patient).
- Clean and disassemble instruments post-op, prepare for sterilization.
- Maintain equipment, update surgical preference lists, and ensure proper functioning of surgical tools.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring privacy, dignity, and safety at all times.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Education Program.
- 3 years of surgical tech experience within the past 5 years.
Certifications & Licensure:
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association).
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – NBSTSA.
- Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) – NCCT.
Preferred Experience:
- Certified Surgical Tech credentials.
- Broader surgical experience beyond Client/Spine.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of surgical tech experience.
- Experience with Client and Spine surgeries.
- Sound clinical judgment and ability to remain composed in high-stress situations.
- Skilled in handling surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile techniques.
- Ability to provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate care.
- Strong communication and confidentiality practices.
- Open to ongoing professional development and training.
