Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Surgical Technologist plays a key role in supporting surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile environment, ensuring instruments are ready and functional, and assisting surgeons during procedures.
  • This position requires strong technical knowledge, a high level of attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare OR tables and ensure all instruments/supplies are ready before surgery.
  • Scrub in and assist surgeons directly during surgical procedures.
  • Handle instruments, suction, retraction, suturing, irrigation, and dressing under surgeon/RN supervision.
  • Maintain a sterile field and follow aseptic technique.
  • Assist with pre- and post-operative patient care (site cleansing, dressing, transferring patient).
  • Clean and disassemble instruments post-op, prepare for sterilization.
  • Maintain equipment, update surgical preference lists, and ensure proper functioning of surgical tools.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring privacy, dignity, and safety at all times.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Education Program.
  • 3 years of surgical tech experience within the past 5 years.

Certifications & Licensure:

  • BLS Certification (American Heart Association).
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – NBSTSA.
  • Tech in Surgery – Certified (TS-C) – NCCT.

Preferred Experience:

  • Certified Surgical Tech credentials.
  • Broader surgical experience beyond Client/Spine.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of surgical tech experience.
  • Experience with Client and Spine surgeries.
  • Sound clinical judgment and ability to remain composed in high-stress situations.
  • Skilled in handling surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile techniques.
  • Ability to provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate care.
  • Strong communication and confidentiality practices.
  • Open to ongoing professional development and training.
