Job Summary:
The X-Ray Technologist operates or oversees the operation of radiologic and magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Responsible for preparing patients for radiological procedures and adhering to safety measures to ensure compliance with regulations and the safety of patients and staff.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Identify patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and others in a position to understand service requirements.
- Promote patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of treatment, and answering questions.
- Prepare patients for radiological procedures by positioning, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified positions, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
- Minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and appropriate knowledge of exposure factors.
- Follow established infection control policies and procedures.
- Maintain production and quality of radiographs by following standards and procedures; process radiographs, observe results, and make necessary adjustments.
- Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records, including completion and verification of exams.
- Ensure operation of radiology equipment by performing preventive maintenance, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintain radiology supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needed supplies, and reordering as required.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by completing regulatory CME requirements, attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Complete yearly Age-Specific Competency.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Education:
- Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- Minimum Licensing Requirements: New York State License (L.R.T), American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT Certified).
Skills:
- No experience required.
- N.Y. State Dept. of Health Licensed Radiologic Technologist.
