Job Description

Role Overview:

  • The Surgical Dental Assistant provides critical support to surgical residents and attending staff within the Oral Surgery Clinic and Dental Ambulatory OR/Procedure Room.
  • The assistant plays a vital role in preparing for and assisting during procedures, ensuring patient safety and a sterile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Escort patients to surgical chairs and screen them prior to procedures.
  • Review medical records to ensure all documentation, lab results, and notes are complete.
  • Provide continuous four-handed chair-side assistance during procedures.
  • Disinfect countertops, equipment, and work areas before setup.
  • Organize and prepare sterile instruments, surgical trays, and equipment for procedures.
  • Take radiographs as needed (pre-, intra-, and post-procedure).
  • Monitor patient vitals, manage suctioning, pass instruments, and assist with medications during surgeries.
  • Remove and clean instruments post-procedure and properly dispose of medical waste.
  • Maintain stock levels of medical and surgical supplies.
  • Respond quickly and effectively in medical emergencies.

Education:

  • Associate’s Degree required.

Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (required).

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • 5 years preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
