Job Description
Role Overview:
- The Surgical Dental Assistant provides critical support to surgical residents and attending staff within the Oral Surgery Clinic and Dental Ambulatory OR/Procedure Room.
- The assistant plays a vital role in preparing for and assisting during procedures, ensuring patient safety and a sterile environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Escort patients to surgical chairs and screen them prior to procedures.
- Review medical records to ensure all documentation, lab results, and notes are complete.
- Provide continuous four-handed chair-side assistance during procedures.
- Disinfect countertops, equipment, and work areas before setup.
- Organize and prepare sterile instruments, surgical trays, and equipment for procedures.
- Take radiographs as needed (pre-, intra-, and post-procedure).
- Monitor patient vitals, manage suctioning, pass instruments, and assist with medications during surgeries.
- Remove and clean instruments post-procedure and properly dispose of medical waste.
- Maintain stock levels of medical and surgical supplies.
- Respond quickly and effectively in medical emergencies.
Education:
- Associate’s Degree required.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (required).
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required.
- 5 years preferred.
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
