Job Summary:
- The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound utilizing high frequency sound waves to assist medical and professional personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs procedures according to departmental format, completing exam in allotted time.
- Performs required daily clerical duties including EPIC, Tele tracking System, scheduling and other systems.
- Performs portable ultrasound exams.
- Performs complex diagnostic ultrasound procedures including detection of masses, abscesses, and stones.
- Assists physician with biopsy deep abdominal studies and color-flow ultrasound.
- Prepares and sets up medical supplies, instruments and equipment.
- Prepares and positions patients; explains procedures.
- Evaluates image quality and processes images.
- Maintains records, archives and retrieves data.
- Calibrates, cleans and maintains equipment.
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments and replenishes supplies.
- Provides technical assistance to students, employees and residents.
- Lifts 25 lbs., pushes/pulls 50 lbs., stands minimum 6 hours/day.
- Greets patients using AIDET standards.
- Responsible for scheduled shifts including overtime as needed.
- Adheres to ID, attendance and punctuality policies.
- Provides age/culture appropriate patient care and communication.
- Adheres to client organizational competencies.
Required Education:
- Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School.
- 2 years training in Allied Health/College.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- R.D.M.S. registered.
- Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Must be able to perform CPR.
- Knowledge of all ultrasound equipment, their function, and operation of each control.
- Understanding of equipment and computer systems as well as the procedures for equipment service.
- Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of safety, infection, and disaster policy and procedures, including implementation of patient care in cases of an emergency situation.
- Maintains CEU Credits.
- Breast Center – Ultrasound Technologist with Breast Experience REQUIRED.
Breast Technical Competencies:
- Proficient in Breast Ultrasound Techniques: routine and complex breast ultrasound examinations, various transducer types and frequencies, scanning protocols for dense breasts, implants, masses
- Skilled in Doppler techniques to assess vascularity
- Image Acquisition and Optimization: adjust Product, depth, focus, TGC to optimize clarity and detail; understand artifacts and minimize them
- Knowledge of Breast Anatomy and Pathology to identify suspicious findings
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance including troubleshooting minor technical issues
- PACS image archiving and retrieval
- Assist physicians with ultrasound-guided breast biopsies, aspirations and other interventional procedures using sterile technique
- Participate in quality control and assurance programs to maintain image quality and equipment performance
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- 1 year of clinical experience in ultrasound.
