Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for cleaning, processing, and sterilization of surgical instrumentation, patient care equipment, and reusable medical/surgical items.
- Functions as a Case Cart Attendant for the Operating Room.
- Receives, sorts, processes, assembles, or sterilizes patient care equipment and surgical instruments according to departmental policies.
- Operates sterilizers (Steam, ETO, Sterrad, Steris) and ensures biological/Bowie Dick tests are performed, read, and recorded.
- Completes sterilization records accurately.
- Uses computerized instrument count sheets and prepares case carts using doctor’s preference information.
- Notifies nursing team of missing items, reports shortages, and completes daily checklists.
- Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes/pulls 60 lbs., and stands for length of shift.
- Adheres to Universal Precautions, proper PPE use, and organizational competencies.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensure & Certifications:
- National Certification: CRCST or CBSPDT (Required).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Central Processing Course or 1 year experience in instrument processing.
- Must work every other weekend.
- Must work three (3) out of six (6) holidays.
- Must work rotating schedule/shifts based on needs.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience.
- Experience in decontamination, surgical set assembly, case cart building, sterilization (steam and Sterrad).
