CT Scan Technologist

Job Description

Job Summary:

• The CT Scan Technologist performs computed tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assisting with interventional and therapeutic procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform complex CT procedures.
• Review and obtain patient clinical history for procedures and document information in PACS.
• Prepare, screen, and review the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member and scan into Epic.
• Identify and/or administer contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
• Review patient prescriptions to verify exam appropriateness and communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician when additional clinical information or a new prescription is required.
• Clarify prescriptions in accordance with appropriate CT protocols.
• Verify insurance-authorized exam scripts and submit exam modification forms for insurance re-verification.
• Obtain outside studies (CD), schedule them in Epic, and ensure CDs and reports are available in PACS for Radiologist comparison.
• Provide exam copies to patients, requesting physicians, and/or family members.
• Evaluate radiographs using PACS to ensure proper identification and diagnostic quality.
• Gather relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety.
• Determine whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure.
• Prepare patients for scanning, including shielding and immobilization devices.
• Determine the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered.
• Provide accurate explanations and instructions to patients and address and document questions or concerns regarding the procedure.
• Perform venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines.
• Monitor the patient’s physical condition for adverse reactions during the procedure.
• Work scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends.
• Work overtime as needed to provide continual quality patient care.
• Lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours per day.
• Identify patient needs and modify care based on age, culture, language, hearing, visual impairment, or other patient-specific needs.
• Communicate effectively with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers based on developmental, educational, and literacy levels.
• Adhere to the Client’s Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior.

Education Required:

• Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• New Jersey DEP Diagnostic Radiography License.
• ARRT Certified R.T.(CT) license.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Required Experience:

• CAT Scan experience.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body.
• Understanding of mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware.
• Thorough knowledge of PACS system.
• Maintains CEU credits.
• Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve (12) months following hire.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three (3) months following hire.
• Six (6) months of CT experience.
• Knowledge of Epic and any HIS/RIS system added by the hospital.

Schedule Note:

• 5×8 | 40 Hours/Week | Every Third Weekend | Holidays as Needed | No On-Call.
• Non-Taxable Per Diem is provided to the qualified candidate living more than 50 miles from the facility.
