Job Summary:
- Demonstrates understanding of cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology.
- Assists with orientation and training of Cath Lab staff.
- Participates in special projects and relevant committees as assigned.
- Adheres to principles of medical ethics applicable to the Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II role.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of ECG interpretation, including waveform morphology, lethal arrhythmias, chamber enlargement, and myocardial infarction.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to ECG changes using ACLS standards.
- Identifies and describes common cardiac pathologies, including symptoms and treatments.
- Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac medications (generic and trade names), pharmacokinetics, indications, and dosages; documents administration accurately.
- Recognizes abnormal clinical laboratory values (ABGs, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, creatinine) and alerts physicians accordingly.
- Performs all components of cardiopulmonary resuscitation during cardiac arrest situations.
- Monitors diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Identifies coronary anatomy in cine angiographic projections.
- Interprets cardiac pressure waveforms and communicates findings to the Interventional Cardiologist.
- Calculates basic hemodynamic parameters using recording systems.
- Documents catheterization events in electronic databases.
- Prepares and manages supplies; sets up sterile tables for diagnostic catheterizations.
- Monitors patients safely throughout procedures.
- Performs cardiac output calculations, oxygen saturation measurements, and ACT (Activated Clotting Time) testing.
- Monitors percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and differentiates between PTCA, atherectomy techniques, and mechanical devices.
- Demonstrates full knowledge of extraction and revascularization devices, including AngioJet, Rotablator, and laser systems.
- Explains indications and potential complications of thrombolytic therapy for acute myocardial infarction.
- Utilizes adjunct imaging technologies such as intravascular ultrasound and Doppler velocimetry.
- Describes indications for electrophysiology studies, pacemaker implantation, ablation procedures, and ICDs.
- Operates Cath Lab fluoroscopy systems to ensure optimal visualization for physicians.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Graduate of an accredited Allied Health Sciences program (e.g., Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Exercise Science, Cardiac/Vascular Sonography, or equivalent experience).
Required Certifications and Licenses:
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
- Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES).
- Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with Cardiac Interventional (CI) or Vascular Interventional (VI) credentials.
Preferred Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid BLS required.
- ACLS required within six (6) months of hire.

- Ability to scrub in a sterile environment for extended periods.
- Ability to wear lead aprons (up to 5 lbs) for prolonged durations.
