Job Summary:
- The Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge and technical expertise in cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
- This role requires comprehensive understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, and interventional procedures.
- The Tech II functions as a scrub tech, monitors procedures, assists physicians, and responds appropriately in emergent situations following ACLS standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates understanding of cardiac, vascular, respiratory, and renal physiology and pathology.
- Assists with orientation and training of Cath Lab staff.
- Participates in special projects and relevant committees.
- Adheres to medical ethics principles applicable to the Cardiac Cath Lab Tech II role.
- Demonstrates thorough understanding of ECG interpretation, waveform morphology, lethal arrhythmias, chamber enlargement, and myocardial infarctions.
- Responds appropriately to arrhythmias and cardiac emergencies (ACLS).
- Monitors diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Identifies coronary anatomy in cine angiographic projections.
- Identifies and interprets cardiac pressure waveforms.
- Calculates hemodynamic parameters using recording systems.
- Documents catheterization events in database systems (Merge Hemo preferred).
- Prepares and sets up supplies for diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
- Performs cardiac outputs, O2 saturations, and ACT measurements.
- Monitors percutaneous interventions (PTCA, atherectomy, structural heart procedures).
- Demonstrates understanding of extraction devices (AngioJet, Rotoblator, laser revascularization).
- Understands thrombolytic therapy indications and complications for Acute MI.
- Assists with EP procedures including ablation, pacemakers, and ICD implantation.
- Maintains fluoroscopy system knowledge to ensure optimal physician visualization.
- Recognizes and reports abnormal lab values (ABGs, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN, creatinine).
Required Experience:
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a Cath/EP Lab.
- Must be able to scrub for:Diagnostic and interventional heart catheterizations
- Peripheral vascular procedures
- Structural heart procedures
- Electrophysiology procedures
- Strong scrub tech experience required.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
Education & Certifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Graduate of an accredited Allied Health Sciences program (e.g., Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Exercise Science, Cardiac/Vascular Sonography).
Preferred Certifications:
- RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist)
- RCES (Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist)
- ARRT with Cardiac Interventional (CI) or Vascular Interventional (VI) acceptable with scrub experience.
- BLS required.
- ACLS required (or within 6 months of hire if applicable).

- Ability to scrub in sterile environment for extended periods.
- Ability to wear lead aprons (~5 lbs) for prolonged periods.
- Ability to lift and transfer patients with team assistance.
- Ability to push beds/stretchers with immobilized patients.
