Medical Lab Technician

Job Description

Job Summary:

• Under direct supervision of laboratory technologist or supervisor, performs select laboratory procedures on blood and/or other body fluids using manual techniques, laboratory instruments, and information systems.
• May perform phlebotomy as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Specimen receipt and accessioning, lab bench work, prenatal testing support, handling specimens, working in PPE.
• Focus is lab bench and accessioning rather than phlebotomy.

Required Education:

• Completion of an Associate Degree Program in Medical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Science.

Certification & Licensure:

• Certification from a recognized national certifying agency (ASCP or NCA).
• BLS required.
• MLT preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years clinical lab experience.
• Prior experience in clinical labs required.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Effective communication, technical proficiency, theoretical laboratory knowledge.
