Job Summary:
- Under limited supervision, performs routine techniques on surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue according to standardized procedures.
- Operates and maintains laboratory instruments and equipment required for analysis.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Cuts surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue using a rotary microtome.
- Embeds surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue.
- Stains, coverslips, and labels tissue specimens.
- Performs special stains under supervision according to standardized procedures.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments.
- May assist in onboarding and training staff.
- Mixes and maintains solutions, including stains and special fixatives.
- Maintains and records QC, CAP, QA, instrument function, and maintenance records.
- Maintains inventory of reagents and supplies.
- Adheres to Standard Work procedures and reports deviations.
- Participates in data collection and quality improvement initiatives.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Associate’s Degree with coursework in Anatomy, Biology, and/or Chemistry.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biology.
- High School Diploma or GED with two (2) years of relevant laboratory experience (work, academic, or volunteer).
- Completion of NAACLS-accredited HT or HTL program.
- Note: Coursework completed outside the U.S. must be verified by a NACES-approved credential evaluation service.
Preferred Certification:
- HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience required
Physical Demands:
- Near vision acuity (clear vision at 20 inches or less).
- Depth perception.
- Ability to adjust vision (accommodation).
- Color vision differentiation.
Interview Process:
- 30-minute MS Teams interview.
