Job Description

Job Summary:

  • This job is responsible for organizing, planning, leading, and directing clinical and management activities for the designated department and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for daily operations and oversight of nursing practice and patient care delivery.
  • Participates as a member of the health care team in maintaining continuity and quality of patient care.
  • Contributes to organizational operations and supports the mission by fostering interdepartmental communication/collaboration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates a high level of ability in leadership, supervisory skills, problem solving, patient advocacy and public relations.
  • Manages and evaluates the clinical operations, programs and resources of the assigned clinical area/facility to assure the safe and appropriate delivery of diagnostic and/or therapeutic patient care.
  • Ensures that all activities are conducted in a timely and cost-effective manner and in compliance with organizational values, professional standards, internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Participates in the development of, and implements new clinical systems/programs to enhance existing services and raise the standard of care for the patient population served.
  • Ensures that work unit activities, productivity, and/or quality indicators are documented in accordance with client Health guidelines.
  • Oversees the resolution of daily clinical administrative and operational issues.
  • Monitors/troubleshoots service recovery and other escalated concerns and resolves within defined Product of responsibility.
  • Collaborates with other departments to address and resolve problems, share information and enhance overall effectiveness/productivity acts as a liaison between cardiology and interventional radiology physicians and staff fostering positive interpersonal communications.
  • Communicates significant information to the Unit Director and others in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Applies nursing process to direct patient care through assessment, analysis of collected data, development of a plan of care, and implementation and evaluation of effectiveness of nursing interventions/actions in relation to intended goal.

  • Assists with coordination, prioritization, and communication related to procedure scheduling and patient flow to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and appropriate utilization of the Cardiovascular Service Resources.
  • Available to support staff as a resource person for procedures and treatments in addition to occasionally taking vacant call shifts
  • Plans, manages and evaluates the work of clinical and administrative staff in accordance with the content, spirit and intent of applicable internal/external regulations and standard for human resource management.
  • Ensures that employees are qualified and properly trained to perform assigned job duties.
  • Holds regular staff meetings and keeps employees apprised of all matters relevant to successful job performance.
  • Makes employment decisions, establishes performance standards and evaluates employee performance.
  • Educates, guides, counsels and develops staff and addresses performance management concerns and technical issues elevated by subordinates as beyond their Product of authority.

Education, Experience and Certifications/ License:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • BSN or Bachelor’s Degree in related field- Preferred.
  • RN License– Required.
  • BLS(AHA)- Required.
  • ACLS (AHA)- Required.
  • Certification in specialty area preferred.
  • Current Arrhythmia Certification.
  • Three years’ experience and clinical knowledge in the same or similar clinical specialty.
  • Two years in a charge nurse/ leadership or equivalent position required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, standards, techniques, protocols and tools/equipment of the nursing profession in general, and of the assigned clinical nursing specialization.
  • Knowledge of client policies and standards, and legal regulatory/accreditation requirements applicable to matters within designated Product of responsibility.
  • Leadership skills include the ability to serve as role model, initiator in problem-solving, decision-making, delegating, and communicating of ideas and information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.
  • Familiar with contemporary health care trends and able to prioritize in a changing environment.
  • Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/applications/software at an acceptable level of proficiency Skills in strategic planning, financial, statistical analysis, and managed care reimbursement.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain flexibility, cooperation, and participate in cross-organizational performance improvement activities.
  • Supervisory skills include developing clear performance expectations, hiring, coaching, conflict management, counseling, resolving performance problems, and facilitating group processes.
  • Ability to express ideas and convey technical information effectively in verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to read, understand and communicate in English sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.
