Job Summary:
- The Tech Assistant II works under direct supervision within the Diagnostic Imaging department to support radiologists, technologists, and nursing staff.
- This role is responsible for scheduling imaging exams, assisting patients, preparing procedure documentation, maintaining imaging records, and supporting daily radiology workflow.
- The position requires strong communication skills, patient interaction, and experience with radiology scheduling systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Schedule imaging exams with physician offices and obtain required authorizations and diagnostic imaging orders.
- Provide CPT codes to physician offices and obtain ICD codes for medical necessity verification.
- Pre-register and interview patients for imaging procedures including PET/CT, MRI, CT, and Ultrasound.
- Enter patient demographics and scheduling information into hospital systems (ITS and Meditech).
- Coordinate child and adult sedation procedures with anesthesiology and surgery scheduling departments.
- Verify diagnostic imaging orders for accuracy prior to scheduled exams.
- Prepare charts, consents, questionnaires, and identification bands for interventional procedures.
- Prepare daily schedules for technologists and radiologists.
- Greet and register patients while verifying insurance and identification documentation.
- Determine primary and secondary insurance coverage and enter information into the system.
- Explain registration forms and obtain patient signatures for required documentation.
- Assist with patient transportation via wheelchair, stretcher, or walking when required.
- Support technologists with patient flow and assist patients on and off imaging tables when necessary.
- Burn CDs and transmit imaging studies through PACS systems.
- Answer incoming calls professionally and direct them appropriately.
- Maintain radiology records including subpoenas and legal documentation.
- Scan signed physician orders into the system.
- Perform filing and additional administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED required.
Certification: Current BLS (AHA – Healthcare Provider) required.
Experience:
- 2–4 years of recent diagnostic imaging scheduling experience.
- Experience scheduling imaging exams including PET/CT, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Angio, and X-ray.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology preferred.
- Recent Epic experience (within the last 6–12 months) preferred.
