Job Description

Job Summary:

  • This position is responsible for Nuclear Medicine imaging and therapeutic procedures, scheduling and pre-procedure patient preparation parameters, routine nuclear medicine camera operation, accurate record keeping, radiation safety regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates proficiency in all nuclear medicine procedures, using initiative in special positioning needs of individual patients.
  • Calibrates and draws up radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients; formulate radiopharmaceutical materials.
  • Calculates data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decay.
  • Calibrates instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction.
  • Practices good radiation safety procedure pertaining to the preparation, handling and administration of radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Operates all imaging and auxiliary equipment according to written procedures/protocols, demonstrating proficiency on all equipment.
  • Responsible for documenting pertinent clinical history and symptoms.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of medications used in nuclear medicine.
  • Responsible for the physiological monitoring and care of patients during nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Maintains proficiency in starting IV lines and follows proper injection procedure.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies in assigned area; prepare and maintain records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing and disposal activities.
  • Responsible for submitting nuclear charge tickets for each patient procedure at the close of business day.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor or physician.

Education Required:

  • Graduate of Accredited School of Nuclear Medicine Technology.

Licensure/Certification:

  • ARRT or NMTCB or ASCP.
  • California State License.
  • American Heart Association BLS.

Experience:

  • Required: New graduate.
  • Preferred: 1-3 years of experience.
  • Needs to be familiar with the Spectrum Dynamics D-SPECT scanner, as well as the Client EVO scanner.
  • Department does general nuclear medicine imaging, (no PET).
