Job Description
Job Summary:
- The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment.
- This role ensures all items meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and infection control, directly supporting patient care and surgical services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow all ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs), SOPs, and company Work Instructions.
- Decontaminate used surgical instruments and equipment using proper PPE and protocols.
- Disassemble, clean, reassemble, and inspect complex surgical instruments.
- Assemble and package instrument trays and sets per established guidelines.
- Operate washer disinfectors, sterilizers, and other processing equipment.
- Document missing or damaged instruments per SOPs.
- Maintain accurate sterilization records, instrument tracking, and inventory.
- Handle instruments and customer-owned items with care to prevent damage.
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of sterilization equipment.
- Keep workstations and decontamination areas clean and organized.
- Communicate effectively with team members and support departments.
- Participate in ongoing training and maintain required certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on sterile processing experience.
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization, and infection control practices.
- Familiarity with ANSI/AAMI standards and IFUs.
- Experience operating autoclaves, washer disinfectors, and related equipment.
- Strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation and tracking.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Certification:
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS).
