Job Description
Job Summary:
- Under general supervision, performs and reports routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.
- Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank, and microbiology according to expected performance standards.
Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients by physician’s request in a timely, accurate, and caring manner. - Maintains documented records regarding maintenance and quality control.
- Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Ensures proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adheres to laboratory quality control policies and documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correcting issues or immediately notifying appropriate supervisors or directors.
- Follows established corrective action policies whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels and documents all corrective actions taken.
Facility Requirements:
- Associate’s Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association (must be attached to submission).
- 2 years recent CLS experience in a hospital setting.
- California license for CLS (must be attached to submission).
