Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Pathologists’ Assistant is a trained allied health professional who provides anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of a pathologist.
  • The position primarily performs routine gross examination of surgical pathology specimens and assists with autopsies and case conferences, contributing to the overall efficiency of the laboratory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine gross examination of surgical pathology specimens under pathologist supervision.
  • Assist with autopsy procedures and preparations.
  • Support preparation and coordination of case conferences.
  • Follow laboratory procedures and applicable quality and safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with pathologists and laboratory staff to support efficient pathology operations.

Required Education:

  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program within the last five years.
  • Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 20 semester hours (30 quarter hours) of biology, AND three (3) years full time acceptable experience as a Pathologists’ Assistant within the last ten years.
  • The three years of experience must be  under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology).

Required Certifications& Licensure:

  • Pathologists’ Assistant (American Society for Clinical Pathology)
