Job Summary:
- The CVOR Surgical Technologist assists the surgical team during cardiovascular and thoracic procedures by preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile field, managing surgical instruments, and supporting the surgeon throughout the procedure.
- This role ensures patient safety and efficient surgical workflow while adhering to AORN, OSHA, and infection prevention standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room, instruments, supplies, and equipment for cardiovascular surgical procedures.
- Establish and maintain a sterile surgical field throughout each case.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments and supplies during procedures.
- Assist with patient positioning, draping, and preparation of the operative site.
- Perform and document sponge, sharp, and instrument counts according to policy.
- Handle and label surgical specimens following established protocols.
- Ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Clean, decontaminate, and prepare surgical instruments for sterilization after procedures.
- Follow AORN guidelines, OSHA standards, and infection prevention protocols.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia providers, and the perioperative team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVOR Surgical Technologist experience.
- Experience with Open Heart, Vascular, Endovascular, and Thoracic procedures.
- BLS (AHA) Certification – Required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Required (Grandfathered candidates accepted).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent military training preferred.
