Job Summary:
- The Mammographer I performs specialized breast imaging services on client patients to aid Providers in the diagnosis, care, treatment and surveillance of breast conditions, defects and/or diseases.
- This position is intended for those who are Producing experience as a Mammographer or experienced imaging professionals who wish to begin a career in Mammography.
- Work is typically performed in outpatient environments across client locations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under general supervision, performs diagnostic imaging on patients as ordered by a care provider.
- Ensures testing is performed safely and with the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patient‐centric care.
- Prepares patients for procedures and reviews clinical history to align with provider-ordered tests.
- Responds to inquiries from patients and family members, provides clear information regarding diagnostic testing and expected result timelines.
- Collaborate with team members across client including Providers to provide exceptional patient care.
- Utilizes a variety of highly specialized mammography equipment and techniques to perform diagnostic procedures in accordance with established Product of practice guidelines.
- Conducts post-testing quality reviews to confirm that all required elements are completed, documented and aligned with departmental and accreditation standards.
- Transfers images and data to the appropriate electronic health system, enters technical data/findings and prepares study for reporting by physician.
- Performs quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting and other equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions for use and other regulatory guidelines.
- Ensures that technical quality of testing meets established protocols and applicable accreditation standards.
- Assists with quality assurance and performance improvement tasks as requested.
- May support client’s academic partnerships by actively engaging in teaching of students in the radiologic program.
- May serve as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentorship to new or less experienced team members.
- Assists with onboarding of new team members.
- Supports inventory tasks as needed to help ensure supplies are available.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
- Graduate of an accredited imaging/radiology program as defined by ARRT.
- Completion of JRCERT accredited Military Educational Program is accepted in lieu of other educational requirements.
Required Certification & Licensure:
- Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
- ARRT(RT)(M) required within 1 year of hire.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Must be a registered Mammography Tech with a minimum of three years of experience.
- Skill in applying principles of mammography and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology, positioning of patients, and medical ethics.
- Demonstrates foundational knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, basic mammography principles and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology.
- Applies core mammography theory, practice and techniques to perform examinations and complete basic post-processing analysis, and documentation with general supervision or assistance.
- Demonstrates clear and respectful verbal and written communication skills to exchange basic information with patients, families, and team members.
- Ability to prioritize and complete assigned clinical and non clinical work tasks with guidance and direction, progressively developing independence in managing routine responsibilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and remain composed in stressful situations with guidance and support, progressively developing effective coping and prioritization skills.
