Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Under general supervision, performs and reports routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients.
  • Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank, and microbiology according to expected performance standards.
    Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients by physician’s request in a timely, accurate, and caring manner.
  • Maintains documented records regarding maintenance and quality control.
  • Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Ensures proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adheres to laboratory quality control policies and documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correcting issues or immediately notifying appropriate supervisors or directors.
  • Follows established corrective action policies whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels and documents all corrective actions taken.

Facility Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association (must be attached to submission).
  • 2 years recent CLS experience in a hospital setting.
  • California license for CLS (must be attached to submission).
