Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer, plan, and direct all activities of the Respiratory Care Department.
- Establish and enforce departmental policies, procedures, safety standards, and treatment protocols.
- Coordinate and manage human resources to ensure compliance with regulatory and hospital standards.
- Supervise, evaluate, coach, and counsel staff (direct supervision of approximately 140 employees).
- Ensure staff competence, state licensure compliance, and adherence to regulatory agency requirements.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage the annual departmental budget; analyze monthly expenses and report variances.
- Evaluate and approve supply and equipment requests based on efficacy and cost.
- Oversee staff assignments based on expertise and patient care needs.
- Implement and monitor therapist-driven protocols.
- Ensure quality monitoring, patient safety, and appropriateness of respiratory care services.
- Oversee adult and pediatric respiratory programs, including ICU, general respiratory, and COPD programs.
- Facilitate staff meetings (minimum monthly), education programs, and continuing education.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing, leadership, and other departments to improve patient care.
- Participate in hospital committees and interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
Education:
- Completion of an AMA-approved Respiratory Care program (required).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Business (preferred).
Certifications & Licensure:
- Valid Oklahoma Respiratory Care License (required).
- RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist (required).
- BLS – Basic Life Support (must obtain within 2 months of hire).
Experience & Skills:
- 3–4 years of related respiratory care leadership or advanced clinical experience.
- Adult ICU respiratory care experience (required).
- In-depth knowledge of respiratory disease management, treatment modalities, and technology.
- Strong people management and leadership skills.
- Advanced computer skills for electronic documentation and data analysis.
- Ability to analyze clinical and financial data.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Preferences:
- Pediatric ICU respiratory care experience.
- Experience managing both adult and pediatric respiratory programs.
- Experience overseeing large teams and multi-campus operations.
