Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs tasks relating to decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies.
- Operates and monitors cleaning and sterilization equipment.
- Maintains records in compliance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards.
- Collects, sorts, cleans, disinfects, and inspects instruments and equipment.
- Assembles, wraps, and labels surgical instruments and procedural trays for sterilization.
- Tests and documents sterilizing equipment including biological monitoring.
- Follows protocols for failed biological indicators.
- Ensures aseptic technique in preparation and storage of sterile supplies.
- Maintains a sanitary and safe sterile processing environment.
- Delivers processed supplies to departments as needed.
- May assist in Endoscopy reprocessing.
- Participates in training and orientation of new employees.
- Reports faulty equipment and safety concerns.
Required Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education:
- Successful completion of Central Sterile coursework.
Preferred Certifications & Licensure:
- Certification – Sterile Processing (CRCST).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Ability to read and write to comprehend equipment operating instructions and documentation.
- Basic arithmetic calculations to count instruments.
- Basic computer skills.
- Problem-solving and communication skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- One year of related healthcare experience.
