Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform designated respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostic procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Provide treatment, management, and diagnostic evaluation of patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities.
• Perform therapeutic treatments and diagnostic testing involving medical gases, environmental control systems, humidification, and aerosols.
• Administer medications to the cardiopulmonary system.
• Provide ventilatory support, including maintenance and management of life support systems.
• Perform bronchopulmonary clearance and breathing exercises.
• Conduct patient education and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• Maintain natural and artificial airways.
• Perform duties in critical care and non-critical care areas for patients of all ages.

Education:

• Associate Degree from a Co ARC-accredited Respiratory Care program – Required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care – Preferred.

Licensure & Certifications:

• Current State of Wisconsin License as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) – Required.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) – Required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required.
• American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and Wisconsin Society for Respiratory Care (WSRC) membership – Preferred.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year of worked or educational clinical experience in both general and critical care.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• 2+ years of experience in a hospital setting providing respiratory care.
