Medical Lab Tech

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols with minimal technical supervision.
• Responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, and specimen procurement and processing.
• Performs timely blood collection duties.
• Follows protocols for interpreting and verifying test results; investigates and documents abnormal or inconsistent results.
• Reports potential problems to leadership immediately to ensure patient care is not compromised.
• Uses LIS, EMR, and other tools to complete projects and assignments.
• Ensures proper instrument operation, documents issues, performs maintenance, and contacts technical support when necessary.
• Participates in training new staff and students, assists with developing training curriculum.
• Effectively communicates with leadership and peers and addresses customer inquiries.
• Participates in error detection and continuous improvement.
• Completes required competency assessments and continuing education annually.

Education:

• Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution (internship included).
• Equivalent military training/experience per CLIA/CAP requirements.

Licensure & Certifications:

• MLT or MLS Certification by ASCP (or equivalent) within 1 year of hire.
• ASCP certification or equivalent within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Two years of clinical laboratory experience.
