Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols with minimal technical supervision.
- Responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, and specimen procurement and processing.
- Performs timely blood collection duties.
- Follows protocols for interpreting and verifying test results; investigates and documents abnormal or inconsistent results.
- Reports potential problems to leadership immediately to ensure patient care is not compromised.
- Uses LIS, EMR, and other tools to complete projects and assignments.
- Ensures proper instrument operation, documents issues, performs maintenance, and contacts technical support when necessary.
- Participates in training new staff and students, assists with developing training curriculum.
- Effectively communicates with leadership and peers and addresses customer inquiries.
- Participates in error detection and continuous improvement.
- Completes required competency assessments and continuing education annually.
Education:
- Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution (internship included).
- Equivalent military training/experience per CLIA/CAP requirements.
Licensure & Certifications:
- MLT or MLS Certification by ASCP (or equivalent) within 1 year of hire.
- ASCP certification or equivalent within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Two years of clinical laboratory experience.
