Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides advanced cardiopulmonary care to neonatal patients in a high-acuity NICU setting.
  • The therapist utilizes evidence-based therapies and critical care techniques to manage and treat neonatal patients requiring respiratory support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer respiratory care including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medications, airway clearance, and invasive/non-invasive ventilation.
  • Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment in a Level IV NICU environment.
  • Participate in neonatal resuscitation and emergency response situations.
  • Review physician orders and diagnostic results to determine appropriate respiratory interventions.
  • Monitor and assess patient response to therapy, adjusting care as needed.
  • Educate families on respiratory treatments and equipment.
  • Accurately document all treatments, therapies, and supplies used.
  • Adhere to infection control, HIPAA, and hospital safety policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with neonatologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary care teams.

Certifications / Licenses and Experience:

  • RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist).
  • RCP (Respiratory Care Practitioner).
  • BLS (AHA).
  • PALS (AHA).
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
  • Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience.
  • Level IV NICU experience preferred.
  • Current applicable state license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of neonatal and cardiopulmonary respiratory care.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills in high-acuity environments.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical documentation systems.
