Job Description
Job Summary:
- The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides advanced cardiopulmonary care to neonatal patients in a high-acuity NICU setting.
- The therapist utilizes evidence-based therapies and critical care techniques to manage and treat neonatal patients requiring respiratory support.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer respiratory care including oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medications, airway clearance, and invasive/non-invasive ventilation.
- Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory equipment in a Level IV NICU environment.
- Participate in neonatal resuscitation and emergency response situations.
- Review physician orders and diagnostic results to determine appropriate respiratory interventions.
- Monitor and assess patient response to therapy, adjusting care as needed.
- Educate families on respiratory treatments and equipment.
- Accurately document all treatments, therapies, and supplies used.
- Adhere to infection control, HIPAA, and hospital safety policies.
- Collaborate effectively with neonatologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary care teams.
Certifications / Licenses and Experience:
- RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist).
- RCP (Respiratory Care Practitioner).
- BLS (AHA).
- PALS (AHA).
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program).
- Minimum 2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience.
- Level IV NICU experience preferred.
- Current applicable state license.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of neonatal and cardiopulmonary respiratory care.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills in high-acuity environments.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in electronic medical documentation systems.
