Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) has advanced knowledge and training in cardiopulmonary care to manage and treat patients.
  • Therapists apply scientific principles, therapies, and techniques to optimize patient care and outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation in emergencies.
  • Review physician orders, analyze diagnostic tests, and provide appropriate therapy based on patient condition.
  • Implement approved protocols as directed by physicians when appropriate.
  • Perform routine and advanced respiratory therapy while prioritizing patient needs in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Instruct patients on using respiratory care equipment professionally and assess their response to therapy.
  • Document all treatments, therapies, supplies used, and corresponding charges accurately.
  • Report outcomes of therapeutic interventions and make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Adhere to policies including infection control, HIPAA, time and attendance, and social media.
  • Work professionally with healthcare staff, employees, and students.
  • Take initiative to complete professional or technical requirements as directed by leadership.
  • Apply continuous quality improvement principles to clinical care.

Perform and direct respiratory care services, including:

  • Oxygen therapy.
  • Aerosol therapy.
  • Inhaled medications.
  • Airway clearance.
  • Invasive and non-invasive ventilation.
  • Bedside spirometry.

Certification / Degree Requirements: 

  • RRT, RCP, PALS, BLS, NRP preferred.

Experience: 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience required; Level 4 NICU experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of respiratory care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow flow chart protocols.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • General computer skills: typing, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, email, and information security.
