Job Summary:
- The Cardiac Sonographer 1 performs basic to intermediate cardiac ultrasound procedures for adult patients, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms.
- Responsibilities include patient preparation, equipment setup, image acquisition, and assisting physicians in diagnostic and procedural settings.
- The role requires strong technical skills, clinical knowledge, and the ability to adapt imaging techniques to provide accurate diagnostic results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform cardiac ultrasound procedures, ensuring accurate, high-quality diagnostic images.
- Identify cardiac abnormalities and adapt techniques as needed, correlating findings with other diagnostic tests.
- Assist physicians with echocardiographic studies in procedure and operating rooms.
- Support transesophageal studies with cardiologists, including probe sterilization and calculations.
- Collect patient clinical histories and relevant data to guide imaging techniques.
- Maintain accurate records, statistics, and daily upkeep of equipment, reporting issues as appropriate.
- Act as a resource for staff, physicians, and students regarding sonographic procedures and equipment.
- Support quality assurance processes and accreditation activities (IAC).
- Implement and adhere to evolving protocols and echocardiography standards.
Education/Certification:
- BLS (Basic Life Support).
- RCS (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) or ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography).
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
- Level 1 Trauma facility experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and sonographic principles.
- Ability to explain procedures clearly to patients and address their questions.
- Proficiency in infection control and patient confidentiality standards.
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
- Skilled in using computers and medical imaging equipment.
- Commitment to patient-centered care, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement.
